Don’t Ignore Long Range Training

A crucial part of your tactical training happens at a distance

When it comes to your tactical training, many people think that close quarters combat is the most important part of your training. While CQC is certainly necessary for combat survival, you also have to take into account long range training, and scoped carbine training could be the way to go. Whether you are trying to sharpen your skills for combat situations, or hunting, long range training can make you better at what you do.

Let’s take a look at why scoped carbine training could be beneficial, and where to find the best courses for it.

What is Long Range Training?

Many people think that shooting through a scope, low powered variable optic, is just like it is in the movies or in the video games, where you just put the crosshairs on the target and you are good to pull the trigger. Unfortunately, that is not the case usually, and when shooting from a distance you will have to account for different things like bullet drop, wind speeds, and so on. That being said, this is where long range training comes into play.

Typically, long range training is taught over a period of a few days, where new or experienced shooters have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of marksmanship that are used in long-range shooting. A long range course will teach the shooter basic information like rifle setup, understanding of external ballistics, range estimation skills, and so on.

Importance of Long Range Training

You may not think that long range shooting is a crucial skill to master, but it can be a life saver. Sure, if you are in the middle of a home invasion then your CQC skills would take over and you may think that those are the only skills you need. You also may think that long range shots are reserved for first responder or military snipers who are in the middle of a combat situation. However, with the way the world is right now, you have no idea what could happen at any given moment. Take a look at what is going on in Ukraine and the Middle East right now, where civilians are fighting for their families and their country, regardless of their backgrounds they are fighting an opposing force. You have no idea if and when that day would come where you are located, and it is better to be prepared than left scrambling and hoping for the best. You are responsible for your own survival and safety.

That being said, it is absolutely crucial to be the best you can be, and be a well rounded tactical athlete who has mastered all different sets of skills, from close quarters to long range. As Miyamoto Musashi said, and we have quoted before, “It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.” What that means is it is better to be prepared and have the skills for any situation that arises if it were to happen, than have something happen and not have the skills to handle it.

Not only that, but long range training can help you be a better hunter, as you can hit your game from a greater distance and increase your chances of feeding your family for months, or taking home a great trophy for your wall. That being said, finding a great long range course to attend can be beneficial.
